I heard Montevideo is somewhat of a "dump" is that true? Do you think Montevideo is a good place to retire?
Comment #1 Sim Bartson from Montevideo -
Have a look at these photos. Can you still use the word "dump"? Where do you live now? Where ever it is you need to get out more.

Who on earth told you Montevideo is a dump?? Montevideo has a few downfalls - it is a small city, there are some significant holes in some of the sidewalks, it can be a bit too quiet at times - but by NO means could you ever call it a "dump"!Montevideo is a calm place, still undeniably a city with all the services you would expect from one, but it is often described as "tranquilo" - relaxed. As in any city there are good parts and bad parts but I don't think the presence of some not so nice neighbourhoods makes it a bad place. It has an incredible seafront walkway that stretches all along the coast for miles and there are people out running, cycling, walking their dogs and drinking mate with friends. There are 3 lovely beaches - Ramirez, Pocitos and Carrasco (how many cities do you know you with beaches?!) There are many beautiful colonial buildings, tree lined streets, winding roads with lovely restaurants and much more. If you are thinking of retiring here you will have to come see for yourself and not take your friend's word for it! • Page 1 (Original Post) •
