SUSHI!

Thank author of this post/comment

Hi All...

For those of us who are used to a wide variety of international cuisine Montevideo can feel a little limiting...sometimes I think if I see another chivito, empanada or muzzarella place I'm going to scream!

Hence you can imagine my utter delight when I heard there was a new sushi place beside Parque Rodo...and that it was run and owned by Japanese people! Despite my skepticism I just had to try it and its actually pretty damn good!

So for anyone looking for their sushi fix I can definitely recommend Sumi. Its only a small place (clean and welcoming but only 4 barstools at the counter, thats it...but they do delivery- as does EVERYONE in Montevideo!)

Their restaurant is on the corner of Patria and Jose Figueroa (2 blocks west of Parque Rodo). They open Monday-Friday 11am-3pm and then again in the evening from 7pm-12pm. On Saturday they only open 7pm-12pm. A pdf of their menu is available on their website (the teishoku box is great value but only available for lunch...and definitely try the temaki!)

Their phone number is 710 79 13 (and as although they all speak fluent spanish they're expats too so they're very patient with gringo spanish!)

Enjoy :)

Aside from sushi, there are still some good dishes to taste in Japanes cuisine. I must say that one of my favorite is teriyaki. I love the flavor of the beef with its special sauce and how the sesame seeds compliment the whole dish. Anyway, where can I find some restaurants in the said place where different cuisines are being served. It would be great to taste varieties of food.
