Safe sections of Montevideo

What are the safest neighborhoods in Montevideo for a family with young children?

Hi Brian,

I think everybody's opinions on these matters may differ depending on what kind of atmosphere you're looking for....I the more suburban areas of Pocitos, Buceo and Carrasco are favoured by families as there are more green areas and they are considered pretty safe.

"Safe" in itself is a relative term. In my opinion violent crime seems especially low in and around Montevideo. There seems to be a lot of petty theft and burglaries so many houses have gates, bars on windows, alarm systems and dogs, but serious crime is rare.

That is true but as far as to what I have read about Uruguay, I can personally say that the place is indeed a safe place to be. Not to mention how lovely it is in there. I did not have any chance of staying in there but then again I am sure that once I get myself into visiting I know that I would surely love it there. Good day.

I understand your concern for your family's safety and security in your desired place of residence. If you're thinking of moving to Montevideo or to any other place for that matter, you would want to move in to a neighborhood where there is zero crime rate and where the neighbors are very nice and friendly. This way, your family can have peace of mind even as you go around the place.

Hi there!

Yes, I agree with you, Frances. I just want to add something, though. The safety of our loved ones should always come first. We need to secure the place first so that we can have a friendly neighborhood and a safety home. Montevideo is a harm free environment so there's nothing to fear about.

Thank you so much and have a great day to all of you guys!
