Renting an Apartment??

Hi, I'm moving to Montevideo soon for a few months, I'll be taking some spanish classes and if I like it I will try stay and find a job.

I'm just wondering how hard it is to find a "not-so-expensive" apartment in the centre and on average how much does it cost? Is there anything I should know before I start looking?

Thanks :)

Hey Jessica,

I am in the process of buying an apartment in Ciudad Vieja - a block from the boardwalk, the walking street, and two blocks form the Solis Theatre. The final price of the studio is not known yet, so I am not sure how much I will need to be charging.

I am leaving mid March, so this could work out perfect. Feel free to email me with any questions, look at my blog, etc.

I also know of a great Spanish class to take if you are interested (it's a link on my blog).

Ciao y suerte,

Dominic

Any apartments available for the month of March? I will also be taking spanish classes in Montevideo while doing a bit a research. I will be in town for three weeks starting the 8th of March.

Have you found anything yet Jessica, maybe we can work something out together...

Cheers!!

Gavin

Hi Gavin,

Renting an apartment in Montevideo isn't so easy (especially with furniture and doubly so if its for a short period!). They request a contract and a very significant deposit ("guarantía"). If you're only staying for a few weeks I think its unlikely an apartment is among the best options for you unless you find someone willing to sublet a room.

Another message got posted on here today about guesthouse style accommodation in Parque Rodó that looks pretty nice...

Hi to all. I am to go to Montevideo soon for a short seminar and also for a vacation as well. I am thinking of renting an apartment because I am thinking of staying there for months and so would anybody here share some good tips and suggestions regarding this matter. It would also be great if any good links be posted here as well. Thanks a lot and have a great day ahead to all.
