Accomodations in Montevideo

We are planning a trip to Montevideo and we would want to stay in an apartment for maybe two to three months. Is that possible? I would want to know how much would I prepare for that period of time for our rent. I also need some good links to where I can read and learn more about my concern. Thanks a lot and have a great day to all.

Having a trip in Montevideo had been my concern. I would like to go there with my wife and so finding out more about the real estate in there had been my concern. It would be great to hear from all of you guys most especially about the places to stay in there as well. Any useful links would be great as well to where I can read and learn more about my concern. Thanks a lot and good day to all.

Thank author of this post/comment"Flat rental in Montevideo"

In reply to previous posts, let me say I offer a temporary rental, normally hosting foreigners, coming between 1-6 months. So, if you ask if possible to stay for 1-3 months, answer's yes, regarding accommodation. Usual visa allows for a 90-day stay. You may cross to Buenos Aires for a weekend and as you come back, you get further 90 days...

Some real estates offer short term rentals, charging for commission and/or a fee for taking you around flat-hunting. There are quite some owners who offer their flats or rooms informaly, thus getting better and more flexible rates. Just beware, as this informality puts you in risk of the many things you may imagine, from arriving to a not-so-nice place, or not very practically located to move around, or even to get mugged after you sent your reservation money. But I believe it's quite easy to realise if a deal "smells funny" and there are not so many muggers around.

When you ask how much would you prepare for renting 2-3 months, it really depends on your initial plan: you may come looking for a zero-budget, I'd advice to look for "couch surfing"; for a student is practical and rather unexpensive to share a room or flat for 300-500usd. Renting a flat for yourself would start at 800usd, according to area. Foreigners usually look for these areas: Downtown /Ciudad vieja; Pocitos; Palermo/Cordón; Parque Rodó; Punta Carretas. No flat in Pocitos or Punta Carretas will go under 1100usd a month.

Just as a reference, my apartment is located in Parque Batlle, which is just 4 blocks away from Pocitos and is currently priced at 900usd, expenses & internet included.

Don't know any websites that exchange tips to newcomers to Montevideo, other than this one, but I'm sure you'll find a lot just googling around.

I hope this helped a bit.

Best regards,

Ezequiel
